Paging functions for TNPP overview
| |
TNPP stands for Telocator Network Paging Protocol. This protocol is used by most paging companies to communicate between their paging terminals and to their satellite systems and paging transmitter towers.
There are two basic types of TNPP protocols for sending pages. The CAP page format contains ALL the raw information for sending a message to a pager. No tables or paging terminal information is required. It contains the CAP code and other information to completely send out a page. This CAP format is generally the result of the translation from a pagers PIN number in a paging terminals table. The other type of TNPP protocol is the ID page format. This is a format the simply contains the pagers PIN number and still must be translated at a paging terminal.
The real advantage to the CAP page format, is you can completely control the setup and routing of the pager. This allows you to buy "bulk" time from a carrier that requires no set up at their end.
The details of TNPP can become complex. This document is not intended to show all the various options of TNPP, but provides all the necessary parameters to complete a successful CAP or ID page formatted page.
The details of each of the parameters can be found in the official TNPP protocol document which can be found at http://www.pcia.com/protocol/tnpp3p8
