NTpage Watcher performs two functions:
| - Monitors the NT Application and System Event logs and sends a message when new messages of type Error enter the system.
|
| - Watches specially coded applications to determine that they are still alive and running.
|
You set up the properties of the NTpage Watcher program in the NTpage Client application. Please see the "NTpage Client" section for specific details on how to set up the NTpage Watcher.
The NTpage Watcher program runs only on Windows NT machines and runs as a service. You run the Watcher on each machine that you wish to watch the event queue. Perform the client install to install the Watch program. The number of machines that you install the Watcher program on depends on the license that you have purchased.
All the client watcher programs communicate with the NTpage Server. The server keeps a count of how many watcher programs are out there. It will only allow as many to operate as there are licenses purchased.
The NTpage Client program sets up the system registry. The program loads the system registry on start up. If you change some the parameters make sure that you stop and then restart the service through the service manager.
The most important parameter that you set up is the Notify Group Name. This is the name of the group that you want notifications sent to. You would set up this group using the NTpage Administrator. For example, let's say when a machine generated an Event Error you wanted a the error to be dispatched to a group of technicians. Go to the NTpage Administrator and create a group called Technicians. Then add various users to that group. Each user can have messages routed to their pager and/or E-mail.
