Q. On
AuthorizeNet, I do not want to charge the customers credit card until we
actually ship the product. The amount when shipped may be
different. What transaction sequence should be performed? When
do I need the transaction ID and when do I need the auth code?
A.
You use transaction id for VOID or PRIOR_AUTH_CAPTURE transactions.
You only need Auth_Code for CAPTURE_ONLY transactions.
Here is the summary of what you should do:
Original amount AUTH_ONLY (i.e. $100) (save trans id and auth code) This reserves $100 on customers credit card.
When you ship:
If amount = original amount: (i.e. $100)
PRIOR_AUTH_CAPTURE passing transaction ID
if amount > original amount: (i.e. $150)
PRIOR_AUTH_CAPTURE passing transaction ID
AUTH_CAPTURE $50 with credit card # and exp-date
or
VOID original passing transaction ID
AUTH_CAPTURE $150 with credit card # and exp-date
If amount < original amount (i.e. $75)
VOID original passing transaction ID
CAPTURE_ONLY passing credit card #, exp-date, amount, Auth_code
